Creating Adjustable Straps for Your ITH Bag

adjustable straps mini tutorial blog

At Sweet Pea, when we make bags, we like to either upcycle straps or make our own! While we do also source new ones from time to time, making your own straps allows you to make something exactly the way you like it, in a fabric that matches your ITH bag perfectly. See our instructions on how to make some simple straps below:

To make your adjustable strap, you will need two lobster clips, a slide buckle and of course your strap you made earlier.

Start by taking one end of your strap, thread through about 1 – 1 ½ inches and back over the other side of the centre bar of your slide buckle. To Hide the raw ends just fold the end under and stitch in place (you want this part of the strap to be well secured).

Take the other end (without the slide buckle) through your first lobster clip.

Next, take that same end of the strap and thread though the slide buckle.

Continue threading that same end of the strap through your second lobster clip. Thread through about 1 – 1 ½ inches and stitch in place. To Hide the raw ends just fold the end under and stitch in place (you want this part of the strap to be well secured).

Your strap is now finished!

We hope this mini tutorial helps the next time you want to add straps to your ITH bag. Check out more How To blogs here, or head to our YouTube channel for video tutorials..

Happy stitching!
