Bargello Runner
Project Guide: 🟠 Intermediate

The term bargello gets its roots from a series of chairs in the historical Bargello Palace in Florence, Italy, which feature a "flame stitch" pattern.

The technique creates an optical illusion of movement and depth. We used this method to create the traditional flame stitch look in a machine embroidered runner, as well as a diamond burst, but you could also use it for pixel art.
Our instructions show you how to make a runner using a paper-pieced technique with a particular layout, but you could change the layout (we provide 3 examples) or turn it into various other projects like bags, placemats, cushions, etc.
The design is made in the hoop then finished on a regular sewing machine. The full sewing pattern for the completed runner are also included.
